Using the Classic 98
Purpose
- Classic 98 is for a music system where the subwoofer should also sit comfortably with the furniture. Its walnut finish and downward-facing driver keep the front of the cabinet visually simple. It is smaller than Classic 99, making cabinet size and the room’s furnishings useful starting points for the choice.

Check the inputs and outputs against the equipment you already use. If you have a connection question, send us the model names or a photograph of the sockets.
Connecting and setting up
- High Level takes a signal from a compatible amplifier’s speaker terminals. Alternatively, connect a volume-controlled preamplifier output to the RCA Low Level input.
- The separate RCA .1/LFE input connects to an AV receiver or processor’s subwoofer output, with its own level control.
- Use High Level or Low Level, not both together. For High Level, follow the instructions for your exact amplifier, including any Class D, balanced, bridged or monoblock requirements.
Points to consider
- The quoted low-frequency extension is a manufacturer specification. Bass level and decay at your seat also depend on placement and the room.
INSTALLATION
Placement and installation
- Keep the supplied feet fitted and leave the space beneath the downward-facing driver or radiator clear. Allow access to the rear controls and cables. This model is not designed for vertical stacking.
- Try the available positions, then adjust level, crossover and phase while listening with the main speakers at your usual volume.
- Allow an additional 44.5 mm behind the cabinet when the High Level connector is fitted.

Common questions
What changes between Classic 98 and Classic 99?+
Both use a walnut finish and a downward-facing driver. Classic 98 is the smaller cabinet with a 10-inch driver; Classic 99 has a 12-inch driver in a larger cabinet. REL rates them at 27 Hz and 24 Hz respectively, both at -6 dB in room. Classic 99 needs more floor space for its lower manufacturer-rated extension.
What does the Australian price for Classic 98 cover?+
$2,799 is the price for one subwoofer, including GST, with a 3-year standard Australian warranty. Any optional accessories and delivery timing will be listed in your quotation. These warranty terms do not limit statutory consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
