Using the REL Planar PL-2
Purpose
- Planar PL-2 is for listeners who want to add bass without placing a deep cabinet in the room. Compared with PL-1, it has a wider cabinet and a lower manufacturer-rated bass extension. Wall mounting or the optional Planar Cart provides the placement options, while included Airship Direct wireless reduces the need for a long audio cable. The subwoofer still needs mains power.

Check the inputs and outputs against the equipment you already use. If you have a connection question, send us the model names or a photograph of the sockets.
Connecting and setting up
- High Level takes a signal from a compatible amplifier’s speaker terminals. Alternatively, connect a volume-controlled preamplifier output to the RCA Low Level input.
- The separate RCA .1/LFE input connects to an AV receiver or processor’s subwoofer output, with its own level control.
- Choose either the subwoofer’s wired inputs or the Airship Direct wireless path; do not feed audio through both paths simultaneously. High Level and Low Level are alternatives and must not be used together. On the chosen path, High Level and the separate .1/LFE input can operate together for the theatre setup described in the manual.
- For High Level wiring, follow the amplifier-specific instructions, especially for Class D, balanced, bridged or monoblock amplifiers.
Points to consider
- The quoted low-frequency extension is a manufacturer specification. Bass level and decay at your seat also depend on placement and the room.
INSTALLATION
Placement and installation
- Allow for the 144 mm cabinet and the wall bracket’s additional 39 mm, as well as the rear clearance specified in the installation guide. Wall fixings must suit the wall construction and the complete installed load. For placement close to a wall without wall mounting, the Planar Cart is an optional accessory. Before installation, check cable access, ventilation and the restraint requirements for the chosen mounting arrangement.

Is wireless included, and does it remove every cable?+
Airship Direct wireless audio is included. It carries the audio signal, so you can avoid a long signal cable to the subwoofer. The subwoofer still needs mains power. The Planar Cart is an optional accessory.
What is the practical difference between PL-1 and PL-2?+
PL-1 is 522 mm wide; PL-2 is 650 mm wide. Both have a 144 mm-deep cabinet before allowing for the wall bracket. REL rates PL-1 at 31 Hz and PL-2 at 24 Hz, both at -6 dB in room. PL-1 is the narrower option; PL-2 trades additional width for a lower manufacturer-rated extension.
What does the Australian price for REL Planar PL-2 cover?+
$5,999 is the price for one subwoofer, including GST, with a 3-year standard Australian warranty. Any optional accessories and delivery timing will be listed in your quotation. These warranty terms do not limit statutory consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
