Reference Series engineering in a substantial standmount. TAD CR1TX combines beryllium midrange and tweeter diaphragms with a 20 cm woofer in a crafted 46 kg enclosure.

LISTENING & DESIGN

What makes CR1TX distinctive?

Compact Reference One TX puts TAD’s beryllium midrange and tweeter into a standmount system. The concentric geometry aims to keep the position of a voice connected to its upper harmonics, while a separate 20 cm woofer handles the bass. It offers a way to explore the Reference design through familiar vocals, acoustic instruments and the space around them, in a substantial speaker-and-stand format.

Beryllium across the CST assembly

The 16 cm midrange and 35 mm tweeter both use TAD’s vapour-deposited beryllium diaphragms. Their concentric geometry is designed to coordinate phase and dispersion. This material choice distinguishes Reference CST from Evolution models with magnesium midranges.

A dedicated 20 cm bass driver

The woofer uses a stiff, layered diaphragm to handle bass below the CST’s working range. CR1TX keeps the three-way division of labour in a single-woofer cabinet, with a published 32 Hz to 100 kHz response range.

Cabinet craft has an acoustic purpose

The SILENT enclosure combines internal structure and laminated materials to resist unwanted movement. TAD’s ISO mounting separates the CST from cabinet vibration. The Tendo Mokko cabinet work and deep wood finish are visible parts of a design that also addresses mechanical behaviour.

How it compares

CE1TX uses a magnesium midrange, a 35 mm beryllium tweeter and an 18 cm woofer. CR1TX moves to a 16 cm beryllium midrange and 20 cm woofer, with a larger, heavier enclosure. R1TX retains the Reference CST concept in a floorstanding cabinet with two 25 cm woofers.

Amplification, support and placement

Each speaker weighs 46 kg and is 628 mm high before adding a stand. The matching TAD-ST1 is sold separately: each stand is 407 mm wide, 532 mm high and 525 mm deep, and weighs 16 kg. Plan the complete speaker-and-stand assembly around its footprint and a secure support position.

Use external amplification suitable for the nominal 4 Ω load and 86 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V / 1 m. Share your amplifier model and preferred listening level to assess the match.

Positioning the pair

Give the complete standmount assembly a secure, level position with room to adjust speaker spacing and boundary distance. The stand is part of the installation, not a way to fit this speaker onto an ordinary shelf.

Questions about CR1TX

Is CR1TX a small bookshelf speaker?

It is a standmount design, but each cabinet is 628 mm high and weighs 46 kg. The complete supported assembly needs a planned position and suitable handling.

Are the matching stands included?

No. Matching CR1TX stands are sold separately. They are shown in the photographs to illustrate the intended installation; accompanying electronics are also separate.

What makes its CST different from CE1TX?

CR1TX uses a 16 cm beryllium midrange with a 35 mm beryllium tweeter. CE1TX uses a 14 cm magnesium midrange with a 35 mm beryllium tweeter. Both use concentric geometry, but the materials and dimensions differ.
