TAD R1TX in Beryl Red, with its CST driver and two 25 cm woofers.
TAD Reference One TX pairs a beryllium CST midrange/tweeter with two 25 cm woofers in a 150 kg floorstanding enclosure. R1TX is the full-scale Reference design for a carefully planned two-channel system.
R1TX combines a beryllium CST with two large bass drivers so the midrange and treble have their own assembly above the bass section. Its isolated mounting and rigid enclosure support TAD’s goal of preserving the spatial character of the recording. In a carefully planned system, listen for both the scale of a full ensemble and the smaller instrumental lines within it.
Reference CST, isolated from the cabinet
A 16 cm beryllium midrange surrounds a 35 mm beryllium tweeter. TAD uses vapour deposition for both diaphragms and ISO mounting to address vibration transfer. The concentric geometry is intended to retain a coherent spatial relationship through the midrange and treble.
Two 25 cm bass drivers
The TLCC woofer diaphragms use a three-layer sandwich construction to combine rigidity with controlled mass. Two large drivers provide the bass section of this three-way system. Their scale warrants careful attention to amplifier loading and room placement, not simply a comparison of the lowest frequency number.
A shaped, layered enclosure
The SILENT cabinet combines internal bracing and laminated construction to manage vibration. Tendo Mokko craftsmanship gives the enclosure its curved form and deep natural-wood finish. The visible surface and the underlying structure are both central to R1TX’s design.

How it compares
CR1TX is a standmount with one 20 cm woofer and a 46 kg cabinet. R1TX adds the full floorstanding enclosure and twin 25 cm bass drivers. R1TXLTD uses the same driver sizes but adds its own finish, reinforced base and revised supports, increasing weight to 162 kg.
Amplification, support and placement
The nominal load is 4 Ω. The 90 dB sensitivity figure is specified at 2.83 V / 1 m, and maximum input is 300 W. These figures do not replace checking the amplifier’s load capability and the peaks expected at your listening distance.
At 150 kg per speaker, delivery access, handling and the final floor/support arrangement need planning before installation. Allow for a cabinet footprint of 554 × 698 mm and room for connections and placement adjustment.
Positioning the pair
Plan the pair and listening seat together. Leave room to adjust wall distance and spacing, and use the manual’s support and levelling instructions. Large bass capability does not ensure even bass at every seat; the final balance depends on the room as well as the loudspeaker.

Specifications are published by TAD. Frequency response describes the loudspeaker under the manufacturer’s conditions, not the response at your listening seat. Maximum input is not a recommended amplifier rating.
R1TX is a floorstander with two 25 cm woofers; CR1TX is a standmount with one 20 cm woofer. Both use a beryllium CST, but their cabinet scale, bass-driver arrangement and installation demands differ substantially.
Is the 21 Hz rating a flat in-room result?
No. TAD’s brochure specifies 21 Hz to 100 kHz at −10 dB. This is a manufacturer response specification, not an in-room measurement or a guarantee of bass level at the listening seat.
Is R1TXLTD only a colour change?
No. Alongside its special finish, R1TXLTD adds a 15 mm, 12 kg aluminium base and redesigned support hardware. R1TX remains the 150 kg Reference One TX in Beryl Red or Emerald Black.
