MODEL COMPARISON

How it compares

Focal describes use from 0.8 m. Shape 65 uses a larger woofer and extends lower; Shape Twin adds two 5-inch woofers in a taller cabinet. Begin with the available listening distance.

DESIGN

What makes Shape 50 distinctive?

01

Passive radiators instead of a port

The side radiators support low-frequency output without a rear vent. Keep their movement unobstructed; proximity to a wall still changes the room response.

02

Useful setup controls

Bass, treble, 160 Hz and high-pass controls provide starting points for integration. They allow adjustment, not automatic room correction.

SYSTEM SETUP

Connections and placement

Source and volume control

  • Use a compatible XLR or RCA line-level connection from a DAC or preamplifier with volume control, a monitor controller or an audio interface. Confirm output level and volume control before connecting. Amplification is built in; do not connect a power amplifier’s speaker output.

Room and listening position

  • Match left/right placement around the listening position and check reflections from desks and nearby walls. Use measurement to assess the bass response at the seat.
