MODEL COMPARISON

How it compares

Sub One is the more compact alternative to SUB12. Its 310 mm width can help around a workstation, but the 520 mm depth and moving side drivers also need space.

DESIGN

What makes Sub One distinctive?

01

Listen further into the bass

Focal specifies 32 Hz to 120 Hz at ±3 dB. That extends the frequency range available for checking bass content; it does not guarantee an even response in your room.

02

Integration controls included

Level, phase, polarity, high-pass and low-pass controls help match the main monitors. A bypass connection supports comparison with and without the subwoofer.

SYSTEM SETUP

Connections and placement

Source and volume control

  • Use the balanced line inputs and monitor outputs for a compatible stereo bass-management path, or the balanced XLR LFE input for an appropriate multichannel source. For a cinema processor, check its subwoofer output connector and signal level against the XLR LFE input; the appropriate connection depends on the processor. Set filters for the actual signal path.

Room and listening position

  • Choose placement through listening and measurement. Level, crossover, phase and polarity need to work with the main monitors; adding a subwoofer does not itself correct room modes.
