Sentinel is MSB’s flagship digital source and preamplifier. Its dual-mono converter uses 32 Hybrid DAC MkII modules, with separate digital processing and power chassis for a dedicated three-box system.

USES
Using the Sentinel DAC
Purpose
- The Digital Director handles your sources, while the converter provides analogue conversion and preamplifier functions.
- Left and right conversion paths have their own power feeds within the dual-mono design.
Connections
- The Director sends left and right digital signals to the converter over separate optical Sentinel-Links.
- The integrated preamplifier controls the signal sent to the amplification system.

Thirty-two Hybrid DAC MkII modules
The modules work in parallel within the dual-mono converter. This is the largest module array in the current MSB DAC range.
Optical links for left and right
Separate Sentinel-Links carry the digital signals from the Director to each mono DAC without an electrical signal connection between the two chassis.

Check the inputs and outputs against the equipment you already use. If you have a connection question, send us the model names or a photograph of the sockets.
Connecting and setting up
- Each chassis needs its own open shelf or ventilated surface; Sentinel units cannot be stacked.
- Leave at least 3 inches above and 2 inches to the sides of each chassis, with space for fibre and power cables.
Points to consider
- The converter weighs 41.3 kg and the power supply 53.3 kg, so their supports must suit these loads.
- The Director-to-converter connection uses Sentinel-Link, which is specific to this system.
- Ask about the complete Sentinel configuration and available audition arrangements before planning a visit.

Can I use the Sentinel DAC without a separate preamplifier?+
Yes. Sentinel includes an analogue preamplifier within its converter, so it can control volume for a suitable power amplifier. The output connection and amplifier matching are planned as part of the complete system.
