Using the Select Digital Director
Purpose
- Receives your digital sources and applies MSB reconstruction filters before conversion.
- Your existing compatible DAC continues to provide the analogue output and volume control.
Connections
- Four input-module slots let you connect a transport, computer or network source.
- ProISL fibre carries audio to the DAC; Control Link carries the control connection.
Key differences
- An upgrade for an existing compatible MSB DAC that keeps the converter and analogue system you already use.
- Select Digital Director uses a 444 mm-deep chassis and weighs 16 kg. All three Directors share four input slots and the two-DSP processing platform.
Select Digital Director has four configurable input-module slots and an isolated ProISL connection to the DAC.

Isolated ProISL fibre link
ProISL sends audio over fibre rather than an electrical signal cable, separating the digital source-processing connection from the DAC’s conversion circuitry.

Connecting and setting up
- For Discrete, Premier, Reference and Select DAC systems, the ProISL and Control Link modules and firmware must support the Director.
- Choose input modules for the digital outputs on your existing sources.
Points to consider
- The DAC remains in the system: Digital Director provides digital processing, not analogue audio output.
- Cascade, Palisade and Sentinel have their own Director systems; these standalone Directors are not interchangeable with them.
- The supplied connection set includes ProISL and Control Link modules and cables; source-input choices are listed in your quotation.

Will the Select Digital Director work with every MSB DAC?+
No. It is an upgrade for DACs that support the ProISL and Control Link connection, including suitable Discrete, Premier, Reference and Select configurations. Installed modules and firmware determine compatibility. Cascade, Palisade and Sentinel use their own dedicated Directors.
Can the Select Digital Director be included in an MSB audition?+
Ask us about including a Director in a private MSB session in Croydon. We will agree on the available DAC and Director before your visit, so you know which combination you will hear.
