IS IT RIGHT FOR YOUR SYSTEM?

Why consider A214-M?

A214-M puts an amplified centre channel beneath or near the screen. Connect it to the centre pre-out of your processor or AV receiver, and use that device to balance dialogue with the other channels.

Amplification matched to the drivers

The crossover and amplifiers are designed for the drivers in each cabinet. The signal path is analogue, without DSP, and the built-in amplification removes the need for a separate power amplifier.

Measured individually in Switzerland

PSI Audio builds, measures and calibrates each speaker in Switzerland against its reference response. This sets up the speaker before it leaves the factory; placement and the room shape what you hear at home.

How does it compare?

A214-M plays the centre channel and is sold individually. A215-M is a tall floorstanding speaker for a different position in the system. AVAA C214, despite the similar name, is a room bass absorber.

For a PSI multichannel system, compare A23-M for the left and right channels and A14-M Broadcast for compact surround positions. A214-M takes the centre-channel signal from the processor.

Basic signal path. Volume is controlled before the signal reaches the speakers.
  • Connect the processor or AV receiver’s centre-channel analogue pre-out to A214-M’s XLR line input. The processor controls centre level and overall volume. Amplified speaker terminals cannot connect directly to this input.
  • The XLR input takes a line-level signal. Never connect a power amplifier’s speaker output to it. Start playback at low volume after connecting the system.
  • Set the centre-channel level, delay and any crossover in the processor as part of the whole multichannel system. Provide mains power at the centre position.

Where to place it

For horizontal use, allow 446 mm in width and aim the acoustic axis towards the seats. The diagram below shows the cabinet in this orientation; the specification table retains PSI’s original vertical dimensions.

Each cabinet needs mains power and ventilation around its amplifier panel. The manual covers voltage selection and installation clearances. Use the distance guide above as a starting point for your listening setup.

Horizontal: 446 W × 166 H × 200 D mm. PSI’s specification lists the vertical orientation as 166 W × 446 H × 200 D mm. Leave room for cables and ventilation; the manual shows mounting points and the acoustic axis.

Common questions

What if my AV receiver has no centre pre-out?

A214-M needs a centre-channel line output, usually labelled Centre Pre-out. An AV receiver with only speaker terminals cannot drive it directly. A processor or receiver with that pre-out provides the signal and volume control it needs.

Do I also need a subwoofer?

A214-M handles the centre channel. In a cinema system, a subwoofer plays the LFE channel and any bass redirected from the speakers. Set that routing and the crossover in your AV processor or receiver.

What warranty does PSI Audio provide?

PSI Audio provides a five-year warranty, with an extra year when you register your product.
