Trinnov Altitude16: front panel

Is it a fit for your system?

A straightforward choice when your amplifiers and active speakers use analogue inputs. Sixteen XLR outputs connect them directly, while the processor handles source selection, volume and the relationship between speakers and subwoofers.

Direct connections to analogue amplifiers

Sixteen separate XLR outputs keep a conventional analogue system easy to connect. Allocate them among the main speakers, surrounds, height speakers and subwoofers according to the layout you use.

Bring bass control to music and cinema

Optimizer adjusts the speakers’ response and timing. WaveForming goes further with the subwoofers, using them to absorb returning reflections as well as reproduce bass. Two front subwoofers can serve a compact listening area, with rear subwoofers helping extend that area.

Connect it to the equipment you use.

With a digital connection, a compatible DAC or digital-input speaker converts the signal before amplification. Analogue and digital connections are different ways of carrying the processor’s output channels.

Signal-flow illustration. The connections described below show how this model fits between your source and speakers.

The 16 balanced XLR outputs feed power amplifiers, active speakers or active subwoofers. Each passive speaker needs an amplifier channel; active speakers and subwoofers already contain their own amplification.

The four additional channels leave the processor digitally through S/PDIF. To feed analogue amplifiers from them, add compatible external DACs and the appropriate cables. These four channels bring the processing total to 20 while the built-in analogue output count remains 16.

What affects the result

  • When direct sound and reflections cancel at a seat, turning up that frequency can make the speakers work harder without filling the dip. Moving a speaker or seat, or adding acoustic treatment, can help address the cause alongside processing.

Choose your configuration.

Analogue outputs connect directly to power amplifiers and active speakers. A digital output first needs a compatible receiver, such as a DAC, before it can feed analogue equipment.

Space for installation and measurement.

  • Calibration measures the speakers at the seats you use. Leaving access for the microphone and room to adjust subwoofer positions makes it easier to improve the bass where you listen. The rack also needs ventilation and space behind it for cables.
  • A 3U rack position needs enough depth for the 430 mm chassis and rear cables. Older units can have different HDMI and conversion boards, which determines whether a hardware upgrade is useful for the sources you now use.

FAQ

Common questions

How do the extra four channels connect?+

Altitude16 has 16 built-in analogue outputs and four additional digital channels. If those four channels also need to feed analogue amplifiers, they require compatible external DACs and the appropriate cables.

Can two subwoofers run WaveForming?+

Yes. Software 4.4.5 introduced support for two front subwoofers positioned to Trinnov’s guidelines. After measurement and calibration, they can reduce room-mode unevenness and decay for music or cinema, with the strongest benefit around the main seats. Rear subwoofers help cover a wider listening area.

When would I choose CI or Altitude32 instead?+

Altitude16 suits a system centred on 16 analogue connections. CI is useful when digital or network connections are a major part of the system. Altitude32 offers hardware configurations with up to 32 analogue outputs when you need more direct amplifier connections. The useful distinction is how your equipment connects and how many outputs it needs.

How long is the warranty?+

The manufacturer warranty is five years.
