Trinnov Altitude CI: front panel

Is it a fit for your system?

If you want to improve uneven bass or bring several subwoofers into a music or cinema system, CI combines the processing and connections in one unit. It is particularly useful when some of your equipment accepts digital or network audio, alongside conventional analogue connections.

Connect the equipment you already use

Use analogue outputs for conventional amplifiers and digital or network outputs for equipment that supports them. The channel licence sets how many outputs CI can process independently; it does not determine which connection you must use for each channel.

Help speakers and subwoofers work together

Optimizer measures how the system sounds in the room, then adjusts frequency response and timing. Around the crossover, this helps the speakers and subwoofers combine more evenly instead of leaving some bass notes too strong or too weak.

Control bass reflections with two front subwoofers

WaveForming uses subwoofers both to reproduce bass and to absorb returning reflections, reducing room-mode unevenness and lingering bass. A correctly positioned front pair can serve a compact listening area in a music or cinema room. Rear subwoofers extend control across a wider area.

Connect it to the equipment you use.

Where it sits in the system

  2. Trinnov Altitude CISource selection, processing and volume control
  3. Speakers and subwoofersAnalogue output → power amp → passive speaker, or a compatible active speaker / active subwoofer

With a digital connection, a compatible DAC or digital-input speaker converts the signal before amplification. Analogue and digital connections are different ways of carrying the processor’s output channels.

Signal-flow illustration. The connections described below show how this model fits between your source and speakers.

The eight balanced analogue outputs share one DB25 connector. A breakout cable separates them into connections for power amplifiers, active speakers or active subwoofers. Passive speakers use a power amplifier between CI and the speaker.

AES/EBU sends digital audio through two DB25 connectors to compatible DACs or digital-input speakers. Dante/AES67 carries audio over a compatible network. On these paths, the receiver converts or amplifies the signal; shared clocking keeps the devices in step, while routing assigns each channel to the intended speaker. CI controls the listening volume, so the downstream equipment also needs an appropriate gain setting.

What affects the result

  • When direct sound and reflections cancel at a seat, turning up that frequency can make the speakers work harder without filling the dip. Moving a speaker or seat, or adding acoustic treatment, can help address the cause alongside processing.
  • For music streaming, an external player can feed a supported digital input. Built-in Roon Ready and Audirvāna certification are still described as forthcoming by Trinnov, so an existing player remains relevant if you use those services.

Choose your configuration.

The licence sets how many channels CI can process independently. Every CI has eight analogue outputs; further channels travel digitally to compatible DACs, speakers or network amplifiers. These connections all draw from the same licensed channel count.

Space for installation and measurement.

  • Calibration measures the speakers at the seats you use. Leaving access for the microphone and room to adjust subwoofer positions makes it easier to improve the bass where you listen. The rack also needs ventilation and space behind it for cables.
  • CI uses the powered EtherCON version of the Trinnov measurement microphone. This connection carries the microphone signal and power; it is a dedicated microphone connection, not a general network port.

FAQ

Common questions

Does a 16-channel licence give me 16 analogue outputs?+

Every CI has eight physical analogue outputs. A 16-channel licence allows 16 independently processed outputs, so the other eight use compatible digital or network receivers. The analogue, AES/EBU and network connections share the licensed channel count.

Can I use WaveForming with two subwoofers?+

Yes. Two front subwoofers positioned to Trinnov’s guidelines can reduce room-mode unevenness and bass decay in music and home cinema systems. CI software 2.2 introduced this support. Measurement and calibration focus the improvement on the main seats; adding rear subwoofers helps extend it over a larger listening area.

Can I keep my DAC or active speakers?+

Yes, when their inputs match a CI output. A DAC with a compatible digital input sits after CI and before the power amplifier. Active speakers with analogue inputs can use the eight analogue outputs; models with compatible AES/EBU or network inputs can receive the signal digitally. CI’s source inputs are digital, so the analogue output of an existing DAC does not feed into CI.

How long is the warranty?+

The manufacturer warranty is five years.
