Trinnov Altitude32: front panel

Is it a fit for your system?

For systems where the number of analogue connections is likely to grow, such as a larger speaker layout, more subwoofers or active crossovers. Choose the output hardware for those jobs; unused channels do not improve the sound by themselves.

Add outputs when the system grows

More speakers, independently controlled subwoofers and active crossovers each use output channels. Altitude32 offers different output boards so those connections can be added as part of a hardware upgrade, rather than replacing the entire processor.

Give a larger bass array the connections it needs

A front and rear WaveForming array uses subwoofers to reproduce bass and absorb room reflections. More output capacity makes room for the planned array and the main speakers; placement and calibration determine how well it works across the listening area.

Connect it to the equipment you use.

  3. Speakers and subwoofersAnalogue output → power amp → passive speaker, or a compatible active speaker / active subwoofer

With a digital connection, a compatible DAC or digital-input speaker converts the signal before amplification. Analogue and digital connections are different ways of carrying the processor’s output channels.

Signal-flow illustration. The connections described below show how this model fits between your source and speakers.

Installed output boards provide 8, 16, 24 or 32 analogue channels. XLR connections and, on higher-output configurations, DB25 breakout cables connect them to power amplifiers or active speakers. The four configurations therefore differ in the analogue hardware available for your system.

AES/EBU and S/PDIF also provide digital connections to compatible receiving equipment. Without an external expansion unit, the platform supports up to 32 processed channels plus four additional digital channels. Larger expanded systems add separate hardware, rather than gaining those outputs from the base unit alone.

What affects the result

  • When direct sound and reflections cancel at a seat, turning up that frequency can make the speakers work harder without filling the dip. Moving a speaker or seat, or adding acoustic treatment, can help address the cause alongside processing.
  • WaveForming uses subwoofers to control bass reflections. The two-front-subwoofer option focuses on the main seats; adding rear subwoofers helps extend consistent bass over a wider area. Altitude32 software 4.4.5 introduced the two-front-subwoofer support.

Choose your configuration.

Analogue outputs connect directly to power amplifiers and active speakers. A digital output first needs a compatible receiver, such as a DAC, before it can feed analogue equipment.

Space for installation and measurement.

  • Calibration measures the speakers at the seats you use. Leaving access for the microphone and room to adjust subwoofer positions makes it easier to improve the bass where you listen. The rack also needs ventilation and space behind it for cables.
  • The 442 × 165 × 445 mm chassis weighs 14.5 kg, before cabling. Rear clearance matters especially when several DB25 breakout cables share the rack.

FAQ

Common questions

What changes between the four configurations?+

Altitude32-88, -816, -1624 and -1632 provide 8, 16, 24 and 32 analogue outputs respectively. This is a hardware choice: adding a software licence alone does not add analogue sockets. Count the connections needed for the speakers, subwoofers and any active crossovers to choose the appropriate configuration.

Can an existing Altitude32 be upgraded?+

Yes. Upgrade paths include output hardware, HDMI and ESS conversion. The boards already installed determine which replacements or additions are useful, and some work requires a factory visit. Eligible older units also have warranty-extension options that can involve inspection, servicing and freight.

How do I choose between Altitude32, Altitude16 and CI?+

Choose Altitude32 when you need more analogue outputs or want to expand that hardware later. Altitude16 provides 16 analogue outputs in a fixed arrangement. CI is built around a mix of eight analogue outputs and digital or network connections. All three offer Optimizer and WaveForming; your connection needs and speaker layout distinguish them.

How long is the warranty?+

The manufacturer warranty is five years.
